Today HTC Malaysia organized an Android oriented event - Android Garage. CodeAndroid Malaysia was there to share a bit of Android love. Members of the core team took turns to speak about our favorite apps. I realized that we may have gone through the applications too fast and/or didn't speak clearly enough of the apps so I'm writing down my list here in no particular order.
1. ADWLauncher.
This is a replacement home or launcher application. The launcher app is what you see when you hit the 'home' button on your phone. There are many reasons to choose this over the stock launcher - speed, more home screens, re-sizable widgets, theme support, dock bar, etc. If you're on stock, install this.
2. WaveSecure
This is a must-have to me. Smartphones carry way too much data so securing it is pretty important. With WaveSecure, you can remote lock, remote wipe, and locate your phone via WaveSecure's website. It also backs up your contacts, SMS, call lists, and other files. Once it's locked, you can unlock it again via a pre-defined PIN.
3. CardioTrainer
Wanna add a little fun to your workout? Try this. I use for the short jogs. It tracks you pace, the calories your burn, distance, time and elevation. There are also premium modules which you can purchase to enhance the app. I paid for their weight loss program as a token of appreciation to the devs. The main application is free.
4. Movies (by Flixter with Rotten Tomatoes)
For movie buffs, this is the app you want. Movie reviews (both critics and users), trailers, cast information, and tons more other stuff are in this app. You can also track which movie you want to watch, rate movies and share these information on Facebook.
So there you have it, my top apps. Other honorable mentions include all the Google apps (Google Buzz, Google Skymap, Google earth, Google voice search, Google Talk, Google Translator, Google goggles, Google Gesture Search, and Google Chrome-to-Phone), the Twitter and Facebook apps, Documents To Go, Evernote, Dolphin Browser, Dropbox Engadget widget, jetVD Youtube Downloader, and Shazam.
